Kai Hazelwood is a choreographer, performer, and educator. Her training includes a BFA in Dance from UCLA, 6 years at the San Francisco Ballet School, the Kirov Ballet in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and summer programs at Dance Theater of Harlem and Alvin Ailey. She has danced professionally with Oakland Ballet and Axis Dance Company among many others.
As a choreographer Kai held a guest choreographer post with Martz Contemporary Dance Company in Barcelona Spain and collaborated with Nua Dance Company, London UK. She was a 2017 Arts Omi International Arts Center Choreographic Resident, a 2018 Artist in Residence for The City of Los Angeles’ Cultural Affairs Department, and was invited to Jacob’s Pillow as part of the National Presenter’s Forum, 2018.
Kai is currently signed with Go 2 Talent Agency as a dance artist, is the artistic director at Downtown Dance & Movement, the resident choreographer at Theatre Dybbuk, and the artistic director of Kai Hazelwood + Colab.
Alongside her choreographic and performing career Kai has continued her dance education work. She worked at AMDA College & Conservatory for 4 ½ years as faculty and then dance outreach coordinator. She took her insider knowledge of college dance recruiting, her experience as a professional dancer and choreographer, and college dance program graduate to began producing educational dance events and visiting studios and schools offering group workshops, choreographing college audition solos and coaching aspiring dancers on how to launch their careers be it college, company, commercial work or beyond.
